As a trainee teacher, I need to ask myself several queries in associations to Personality and Nationality Education (CCE) syllabus just before I begin my instructing journey. Precisely what is CCE? For what reason CCE at this point? What is the objective of CCE? How can CCE associated with me like a teacher? Are teachers the only person responsible? What are the conceivable challenges I would face in promoting CCE? I shall discuss these queries in the following.

During my early education years, my educators taught myself what it means being a Singaporean and also inculcate moral values. I actually learnt the meaning of the Singapore Flag, discovered to sing the Nationwide Anthem, to recite the Singapore Promise, give your word, and find out about the different racial and tradition heritage and practices through my Native language ‘Good Citizen', Social Research and Religious Knowledge lessons. Over the years, the citizenship education programmes in school has been constantly on the ‘move' with the latest introduction of CCE from 2010:. Ethics (1959)

. Civics (1967)

. Education for Living (1973, interdisciplinary subject)

. Overview of the Moral Education (1978)

. Good Individuals (Primary) (1981)

. Being and having (Secondary) (1981)

. Social Research (Primary) (1981)

. Religious Know-how (1984)

. Civics and Ethical Education (1992)

. National Education (1997)

. Social Studies (Upper Secondary) (2001)

. Character and Citizenship Education (2010/2011)

Right now, CCE is actually a new syllabus that will be launched in primary and secondary schools by 2014 (MOE, 2012). But , why is there a need for a big change? Singapore can be described as small geographical size multi-racial country without having natural resources and relies upon human resources for economic success. To compensate to get the lack of area and natural resources, Singapore embarked on a process of globalizing its economy, its inhabitants, and its tradition to make the land relevant to the needs with the rest of the universe. Singapore is known as, one of the most globalized of nations, based on the FOR Kearney/Foreign Coverage globalization index in 2001, and they have since remained in the top rated four (Measuring Globalization 2003). However , the fast pace of globalisation has created a flurry of challenges by worsening the emotional ties Singaporeans have for their nation. This problem is proven by a number of phenomena, together with a weakening of social combination and a pragmatic attitude toward the group good and self-sacrifice. We can witness this kind of alarming happening from magazine and internet sources just like STOMP, social networking Facebook as well as our daily experience. Reports on a group of house owner protested against the building of elderly home at their particular backyard plus the incident of Amy Cheong have featured the risk to our country's social combination and inclusiveness. Our federal government has grown increasingly alarmed by simply these tendencies. " See, the task was going to construct a unified national system of education from the ethnically divided and politically competitive provision handed down from the English. Economically, it had been to provide a share of standard education, expertise and perceptions required for industrialization” (Sharpe & Gopinathan, 2002). Henceforth, each of our government over the past 47 years has given schools the important role in assisting to build a nation, develop a shared nationwide identity among the diverse ethnicity and ethnic groups who have made up the Singapore's zugezogener society. According to IEA Civic Education Study executed in 95 (Lee., 2012), social cohesion and diversity, democracy and the building of a nationwide identity will be three crucial pillars of Singapore's citizenship education. You observe that our govt is building these three pillars throughout the aims of CCE which can be to inculcate values and make social and emotional competences in learners. Our students will learn principles through 3 big overlapping ideas, namely Identity, Associations and Choices and this new framework is always to seek in developing pupil with the essential 21st Century competences to achieve...
